The Institute for Artists’ Estates is delighted to announce the release of the book The Artist’s Estate: A Handbook for Artists, Executors, and Heirs, by the Institute’s founder Loretta Würtenberger.
The Handbook intends to initiate discussion and to lay ground for debate on the subject of how best to build and maintain and artist’s legacy. In the first part, the volume presents suggestions of the different approaches to maintaining an artist’s estate and recommendations on the proper handling of the market, museums and academia. In the second part of the Handbook family members, executors, gallerists and managers of some of the 20th century most respected artists, share their experiences on managing an artist’s estate, including Michael Baumgartner (Zentrum Paul Klee), Mayen Beckmann (Estate Max Beckmann), Richard Calvocoressi (The Henry Moore Foundation), Jerry Gorovoy (The Easton Foundation/ Louise Bourgeois), David Nash (Gallerist to the estates of Roy Lichtenstein und Willem de Kooning), Jack Flam (The Dedalus Foundation/ Robert Motherwell), Christy MacLear (Robert Rauschenberg Foundation), Rainer Judd (Judd Foundation), Barry Rosen (Eva Hesse Estate), Michael Ward Stout (The Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation), Gisela Capitain (Estate Martin Kippenberger), Helene Vandenberghe (Estate Philippe Vandenberg).
